STRETFORD SAINTS

Stretford Saints were formed in 1947, playing
their home games at Longford Park, then Turn Moss. They were members of the
Manchester League until it folded in 1958 then joined the Merseyside League.
In 1963 a new National League was formed. This new league included Hull Aces,
Nottingham Saints, Coventry Blue Sox, Birmingham Bombers, Bromsgrove Dodgers as
well as the Saints. They won the first three NL titles and also two more in the
early seventies.
The Saints reached their
only National club championship finals in the sixties, appearing in two
straight. Losing the first to Hull Aces in '65 but winning the following year,
beating Liverpool Aces 3-1 in Romford.
In addition they were the first English club to play in a European competition,
the 1965 European Cup.
The club folded at the end of the 1973 season, when they finished 5-5 in the
Merseyside League.
